For my 2018 Spring Art show, I created ten pieces in total including nine mugs and one teapot. For my nine mugs, I divides them into three different groups. For the first group of three mugs I created black mugs with white stars on them. This was inspired by my love and fascination of the stars and the natural beauty of space and the curiosity that it instills within me. The colour black resembles the abyss of space and time that is an enclosure of the world, and the white stars represent hope and the bright lights that shine through in the darkness. For my second group of three mugs I created gold mugs with the Big Dipper, Orion, and Libra constellations on each mug. This was inspired by my favourite constellations and the individualized meaning of each one. The colour gold represents destiny, faith, and God, and the white constellations are the beautiful creations that God has designed and aligned in the sky to help us explore and discover our path to destiny that he has made for us. For my third group of three mugs I created blue galaxy mugs with prisms on them outlined gold. This was inspired by the profound and natural beauty that is our sky, the clouds, and the colourful galaxy that surrounds us and fills me with awe. The colour blue and white represent the pure wonder and raw passion that motivates me everyday, and the prisms with gold represent how everyone has a rocky path but with dedication and a powerful drive you can find your way to the promised land which is represented in the gold. For my tenth piece I created a silver metallic teapot. The silver represents the imagination and dreams and how they are in everything, including space, time, and life as a whole.
The unifying element that is incorporated into all of my functional pieces was the geometric form of each piece, which is created by a mixture of wheel throwing techniques and handbuilding skills. The elements found in my ceramics pieces are line, colour, shape, form, pattern and texture. The principles of art that are found in my ceramics pieces are emphasis, variety, and rhythm, which convey the emotions, meanings, and moods of each element in my pieces. Throughout the process of building my pieces and my art show, I had so much fun trying to find new ways to make it as unique as possible.
